Cold Snap For Tasmania
Tasmania is in the grip of a winter cold snap, with snow falling as low as 500 metres across the state.
Heavy snowfall was reported in the Central Highlands, including Miena and Lake St Clair, with images showing a thick white blanket.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the snow line will gradually rise mid-week as the cold front shifts west.
The frosty conditions are set to continue, especially in elevated and western areas.
Restaurant Of The Week
Omotenashi Hobart is an exclusive 10-seat kaiseki restaurant where Japanese tradition meets Tasmania’s pristine produce.
Tucked inside a Lexus showroom on Elizabeth Street, it offers a refined multi-course dining experience marked by seasonality, precision, and quiet hospitality.
At $312 per guest (including welcome sake and tea), it’s designed for those who value craftsmanship and elegance.
Dietary flexibility is limited, and private bookings for 8–10 guests are available on select evenings.
Busy Friday Nights
Hobart’s nightlife is booming, with a new report showing more than 200 new venues and a doubling in turnover over the past 15 years.
Friday nights are now the city’s busiest, and around 10% of the workforce is linked to the night-time economy—above the national average.
While the growth is celebrated, staffing remains a key challenge.
The City of Hobart plans to hold industry roundtables to support further development and innovation.
Billboard Gets The Nod
Clarence City Council has approved a controversial digital billboard on the Tasman Highway near the Tasman Bridge, despite safety concerns from planning officers and road authorities.
Located at Montagu Bay, the LED sign was backed by councillors in a split vote, with some citing low crash data and community funding benefits.
Opponents argued it could distract drivers in an already complex traffic zone.
The billboard will display static ads and operate from sunrise to 11pm.
Dog Ban Lifted
Clarence City Council has reversed a short-lived ban on dogs at Racecourse Flats’ Tangara Trail, following strong community backlash.
The ‘no dogs’ signs will be replaced with ‘dogs on leash, on track only’ signage.
The popular walking route had long been used by local dog owners, who were surprised by the sudden ban.
Councillors acknowledged confusion in the existing dog management policy and will now consult the public on broader rules.
