Tasmanian Home Of The Year
Construction With Destiny has won the 2025 HIA Tasmanian Home of the Year with its Nebraska Residence on Bruny Island.
Described as a “coastal sanctuary” blending natural elegance and craftsmanship, the home features Tasmanian oak joinery, Moroccan tiles and brass tapware.
Other winners included JOSCON Tasmania, Axis Homes Tas and Turner Plus, while Simon Rossiter was named Emerging Builder and Kalan Hutchins Apprentice of the Year.
All winners progress to the 2026 national awards.
Restaurant Of The Week
Originally opening in North Hobart in 1989, Vanidol’s was the first Tasmanian restaurant to bring Thai, Indian and Indonesian cuisines together on one menu.
Today, Vanidol and his wife Sumitra welcome diners to their South Hobart restaurant, serving homestyle dishes crafted from fresh produce and inspired by annual culinary journeys to Thailand.
Open Tuesday–Saturday for lunch from 11am and dinner from 5.30pm, Vanidol’s South Hobart remains a much-loved dining destination.
Bushfire Warnings
Firefighters are working to contain multiple bushfires across southern Tasmania as damaging winds of up to 115km/h batter the state.
Active fires at Crawlers Gully near Nugent, Ross, Levendale and Stonehenge are proving challenging, with aerial operations restricted.
The Tasmania Fire Service advises that conditions can change quickly.
Residents are urged to stay informed, with winds expected to ease on Monday evening.

Lego Store Grand Opening
Crowds packed Collins Street on Saturday for the grand opening of Tasmania’s first official LEGO store.
Some superfans camped out before sunrise to be among the first inside the flagship outlet, one of the largest in Australia and New Zealand.
Housed in the former Rivers building at Collins and Elizabeth streets, the store features giant LEGO Tasmanian devils and a Hobart waterfront mosaic, making it both a retail destination and a creative community hub.
