Stunning Aurora Australis Lights Up The Night
Tasmania's night sky dazzled on Sunday as the Aurora Australis painted vibrant pink and green hues across the state.
Northern regions enjoyed prime viewing, while southern areas faced cloud cover.
The spectacle, triggered by a geomagnetic storm, was visible to the naked eye and even reached as far north as Tamworth, NSW.
Restaurant Of The Week
Landscape Restaurant & Grill, nestled in Hobart's historic IXL Jam Factory, offers a premium dining experience that celebrates Tasmania's finest produce.
With a 4.6-star rating from over 530 reviews, it's renowned for expertly grilled steaks, fresh seafood, and standout sides like duck fat potatoes.
The ambiance is enriched by original John Glover artworks, creating a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere.
Attentive service and a curated wine list make it ideal for special occasions or a memorable night out.
Centrepoint And Argyle Street Car Parks Get Extended Hours
The City of Hobart is trialling extended hours at the Argyle Street and Centrepoint car parks to ease parking woes for hospital staff.
Starting July, Argyle Street will open daily at 6:30am, half an hour earlier, to accommodate early shifts.
Centrepoint's weekday closing time will extend to 7:15pm, pending a $75,500 annual agreement for additional security.
The council is also exploring 24/7 access options and permanent after-hours solutions.
78-Year-Old Bridgewater Bridge Closes
On June 1, 2025, Tasmania bid farewell to the iconic 78-year-old Bridgewater Bridge, a steel lift span that had connected Hobart’s eastern and western shores since 1946.
Thousands of locals crossed it one final time before its permanent closure.
The bridge, plagued by mechanical failures in recent years, was deemed unsafe and too costly to maintain.
