Wild Shellfish Warning

Tasmanian’s are being urged to steer clear of wild shellfish from Boomer Bay, Little Boomer Bay, and Boomer Bay East due to dangerous levels of algal toxins.

These toxins can cause paralytic shellfish poisoning, with symptoms like tingling, weakness, and difficulty breathing.

Cooking or freezing doesn't eliminate the risk.

Commercial seafood remains safe, thanks to rigorous monitoring programs.

Restaurant Of The Week

Fico offers a unique blend of Italian and European cuisine with a focus on local produce.

Located at 151 Macquarie Street, Fico has earned accolades for its innovative dishes and exceptional service.

Port Arthur Increasing Entry Fees

Starting July 1, entry fees at the Port Arthur Historic Site will increase to support rising conservation costs.

Families can expect to pay an additional $7, while concession holders will see a $3 hike.

These adjustments aim to fund the preservation of over 30 historic buildings across 135 hectares, ensuring the site's rich convict heritage remains accessible for future generations.

North Hobart Mural To Be Removed

After more than 20 years, North Hobart’s cherished trompe l’oeil mural in Tony Haigh Walk is set to be removed due to weather damage.

Created by local artist Peter Gouldthorpe in 2001, the artwork features a flower-filled window, a blue heeler, and a white picket fence.

Removal was expected to begin yesterday, with plans to install signage commemorating the mural’s legacy. The northern wall mural will remain intact.
