A large shark, estimated at 4.5 metres, was spotted between 50–100 metres offshore at Renard Point, Primrose Sands, on Sunday afternoon.
Tasmania Police issued a community alert urging caution for beachgoers in the south-east.
Authorities reminded the public to report any shark sightings near Tasmanian beaches to police.
Restaurant Of The Week
Belvedere is a modern Tasmanian dining destination where history and paddock-to-plate meet.
Housed in an Art Deco landmark once home to a beloved dance hall, it now celebrates the island’s best produce – from Cape Grim Beef and Atlantic Salmon to artisan cheeses and local wines.
With striking interiors, a roaring fire, and menus that shift seamlessly from breakfast to dinner, Belvedere is the perfect spot to savour authentic Tasmanian flavours while soaking up rich heritage.
Motorists Ignoring Speed Camera Warnings
Tasmania’s new Bridgewater Bridge speed cameras issued 246 fines worth $41,410 in their first week of operation.
Authorities reported a 70% drop in speeding incidents compared to the testing period, which previously recorded 800 offences weekly.
Most drivers were caught less than 15km/h over the 80km/h limit, though four were detected at more than 30km/h over.
The worst offender was clocked at 135km/h.
Officials warned that repeat offenders risk multiple fines and licence loss.
Kangaroos Say Goodbye To Hobart
North Melbourne star Harry Sheezel equalled the AFL’s all-time disposal record with 54 touches in the Kangaroos’ 48-point win over Richmond at Hobart’s Ninja Stadium.
The 20-year-old matched Tom Mitchell’s 2018 mark while also kicking two goals, surpassing North Melbourne’s club record of 44 disposals in the process.
The victory capped the Roos’ 13-year stint in Tasmania, with 11,176 fans attending the farewell fixture.
From 2026, the club will shift two games back to Marvel Stadium for Melbourne supporters.
