Breakthrough In Tasmanian Tiger Research
Scientists have achieved a significant milestone in efforts to bring back the extinct Tasmanian tiger (thylacine).
A collaboration between Colossal Biosciences and the University of Melbourne has successfully sequenced the complete genome of the thylacine with 99.9% accuracy, using preserved specimens.
This breakthrough paves the way for potential de-extinction, with plans to use the dunnart, a small marsupial, as a surrogate.
The team aims to reintroduce the species into the wild within the next decade, pending further research and ethical considerations.
