Tasmania’s hospitality stars were celebrated at the 2025 Awards for Excellence, with a record crowd of 900 at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.

Hobart’s Peppina won four golds including Restaurant of the Year – Metro, while Frogmore Creek claimed Restaurant of the Year – Regional.

The Plough Inn took four major honours, The Cove Tasmania enjoyed a breakthrough in accommodation, and Saffire Freycinet retained its regional dominance.

New People’s Choice awards drew over 20,000 public votes.

Spirit Of Tasmania IV Hit With Another Setback

The state’s troubled Spirit of Tasmania IV has been deemed unable to berth at Point Henry in Geelong, after a safety assessment found the site required costly upgrades.

Instead, the ship will rotate between berths at the Port of Geelong until entering service in late 2026.

Sister ship Spirit V will also be temporarily stored in Europe before making its way to Hobart for fit-out.

Boomers Return To Tasmania After 20 Years

The Australian Boomers will play their first game in Tasmania in nearly two decades, taking on New Zealand at MyState Bank Arena on Friday, November 28.

The sell-out clash marks the start of their 2027 FIBA World Cup campaign, with captain and JackJumpers star Will Magnay calling it a “special” chance to represent Australia at home.

Community clinics and events will run across the state in the lead-up.
