A Short Story About The Newsletter

Hi, my name is David, and I’m building this newsletter with a mission — to inspire, inform, and grow a community while supporting my partner through her cancer journey.

This project is about creating something sustainable and meaningful, a business that can help cover the medical bills, and provide great value for the readers.

A big thankyou to everyone who is a reader.

Push For Hobart Night-time Economy Strategy

Hobart has ranked just 41st in Australia for its night-time economy, with poor transport and no government strategy holding the city back.

A new Visa report found Hobart scored only 38.9/100, despite strong growth in nightlife businesses and $1.1 billion in turnover last year.

Safety and accessibility were key weaknesses, with residents calling for better transport and more affordable entertainment.

The Hobart City Council will host a round table next month to push for reforms.

Icebreaker Refueling Saga

Tasmania’s $528 million Antarctic icebreaker, the RSV Nuyina, has been forced to make 600km round trips to Burnie for refuelling since 2023, adding almost $900,000 a year to running costs after being banned from passing under the Tasman Bridge.

The Australian Antarctic Division has now formally dropped attempts to overturn the ban, with the state and federal governments working on a long-term solution at Macquarie Wharf, such as a fuel barge or pipeline, by the 2026–27 Antarctic season.

Tasmania Fashion Festival

The Tasmanian Fashion Festival returns with two spectacular events. Opening Night (Oct 11, 6–10 pm) features a runway of emerging and established designers, canapés, cocktails and DJ Milhouse.

Festival Day (Oct 12, 9:30 am–4 pm) offers eight runway shows, Q&As, wearable art, pop-up shops, and Tasmanian food & wine.

VIP passes include reserved seating, wine bar access and a luxury gift bag. A family-friendly Children’s Ticket is also available for Sunday.
