The free newsletter making HR less lonely

The best HR advice comes from people who’ve been in the trenches.

That’s what this newsletter delivers.

I Hate it Here is your insider’s guide to surviving and thriving in HR, from someone who’s been there. It’s not about theory or buzzwords — it’s about practical, real-world advice for navigating everything from tricky managers to messy policies.

Every newsletter is written by Hebba Youssef — a Chief People Officer who’s seen it all and is here to share what actually works (and what doesn’t). We’re talking real talk, real strategies, and real support — all with a side of humor to keep you sane.

Because HR shouldn’t feel like a thankless job. And you shouldn’t feel alone in it.

Major Airport Upgrade Complete

Hobart Airport’s newly upgraded $130 million runway has officially opened, enabling direct international flights to destinations like Singapore and Hong Kong.

The project, jointly funded by the federal government and Hobart Airport, allows wide-body aircraft to operate without mainland stopovers.

Officials say the upgrade will boost tourism, agriculture, and exports, injecting $122 million annually into Tasmania’s economy and creating over 1,200 jobs.

A $200 million terminal expansion is also underway, with full completion expected by late 2027.

Property Of The Week

Perched high above the landscape, this elevated sanctuary offers breathtaking views of Mount Wellington, Pitt Water, and Sorell.

Featuring three spacious bedrooms, a chef's kitchen, and full-length timber deck, the home balances luxury with rural tranquillity.

The upstairs master suite boasts a private retreat and balcony.

Set on 2.5 acres just minutes from Sorell, it delivers peaceful, elevated living without compromising convenience, a truly remarkable lifestyle opportunity.

Relief For 100’s Of Workers

A $135 million government rescue package has secured over 500 jobs at Hobart’s Nyrstar zinc smelter, ending months of uncertainty for workers.

The bailout, funded by federal, Tasmanian, and South Australian governments, also safeguards jobs at the company’s Port Pirie site.

Nyrstar Hobart collaborates with around 300 local businesses and plays a vital role in Australia's metals processing sector.

The funding will support continued operations and future development in critical mineral extraction.

Boys 14 & 15 Bailed

A 33-year-old man is in hospital with serious head injuries after being assaulted by four teenage boys—two aged 14 and two aged 15—at Northgate Shopping Centre in Glenorchy.

All four teens were charged with assault and released on bail.

The attack, which left the victim with brain bleeding, has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for tougher youth crime measures.

Burger Haus has announced it will close its Sorell restaurant on Saturday, August 16, leaving just its original North Hobart store in operation.

The Sorell location opened four years ago, but follows the closure of the Eastlands store in 2024.

Owners thanked the community for their support and urged locals to back the new business taking over the space.

No specific reason for the closure was provided.
