Hospital Under-Staffing
Nurses in the Royal Hobart Hospital’s Medical Imaging Department have launched industrial action over chronic under-staffing and excessive fatigue.
The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation says staff are being pushed to unsafe limits, including frequent overtime and on-call shifts.
As part of the action, nurses will refuse forced overtime and take extra fatigue breaks.
The union is calling for urgent staffing increases and workload reforms to protect both nurses and patients.
Property Of The Week
Perched high in Howrah, 225 Carella Street offers exceptional family living with breathtaking River Derwent and kunanyi/Mount Wellington views.
This sun-filled four-bedroom home features open-plan living, multiple lounges, a rumpus room, and luxurious bathrooms across two levels.
Highlights include a curved balcony, landscaped gardens, double garages, and a workshop.
Just minutes from shops and the foreshore, this standout property combines style, space, and stunning scenery in one of Hobart’s most desirable suburbs.
How Francesca Jewellery Is Changing Lives
Francesca Jewellery, founded by Hobart sisters Hannah and Rachel Vasicek, is making a meaningful impact through its handcrafted beaded bracelets.
These bracelets are assembled in Hobart by a team that includes eight women from refugee backgrounds, providing them with valuable employment opportunities.
The brand's commitment to social responsibility has led to over $1 million raised for various charities through the sale of their awareness bracelets.
New Childcare Facility In Howrah
Construction is underway on the $9 million Glebe Hill Childcare Centre in Howrah, set to ease the critical shortage of early learning spots in Hobart’s eastern suburbs.
The 106-place centre, located next to Glebe Hill Village, is due for completion in April 2026.
Operated by Green Leaves Early Learning, the state-of-the-art facility will feature high-end design, interactive public art, and meet the growing needs of the rapidly expanding local community.
Local Footy Club Revival
Glenorchy District Football Club is experiencing a major resurgence, with its Auskick program growing by 128% this year.
Club leaders credit support from AFL Tasmania and a renewed community enthusiasm for footy as Tasmania prepares to enter the national league.
A new junior transition program, the ‘Little Rum’uns Junior League’, is also gaining momentum.
The club sees this growth as vital to building a strong future for local football in the state.
