Historic Boat Salvaged
The 67-year-old MV Goondooloo has been salvaged from Tasmania’s D’Entrecasteaux Channel after four months underwater.
The historic wooden boat sank in February due to steering failure en route to the Wooden Boat Festival.
Owners feared it was lost, but a community effort led by divers and maritime authorities made recovery possible.
Built in 1958, Goondooloo will now undergo repairs to preserve its legacy.
Property Of The Week
7 James Avenue, Kingston Beach is a 1930s heritage home perched on nearly half an acre, offering panoramic views over Kingston Beach, Bonnet Hill, and the Derwent River.
This 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom property features original stone and timber construction, a sunroom with floor-to-ceiling glass, a cozy lounge with fireplace, and a charming potting shed.
The terraced backyard includes a private gate to James Lane, providing easy access to the beach. Architect-designed restoration plans are available, aiming to blend modern comfort with historical charm.
Illegal Pet Turtle Discovery
A Hobart woman has been fined $1,000 for keeping an illegal pet turtle, highlighting Tasmania's strict wildlife laws.
Julie Devine appeared in the Supreme Court after pleading guilty to possessing a restricted animal—an offence that could carry up to 21 years in prison.
Justice Michael Brett acknowledged Devine's lack of awareness but emphasized that ignorance of the law is no excuse.
Macquarie Point Stadium Replica
A timber scale model of Hobart’s proposed $945 million Macquarie Point Stadium is now on display at Red Square.
Featuring a translucent roof and a base made from Tasmanian celery top pine, the model highlights key design elements.
Created with input from local experts, it coincides with the Planning Commission’s review under the Project of State Significance process.
