Heirlooms Returned To 100-Year-Old Man
A 100-year-old man visiting Tasmania has been reunited with treasured family jewellery after a fall in Hobart’s CBD.
The man, who remains in hospital, lost a gold chain engraved with the date 14/07/1959 and two gold wedding bands near Murray and Davey streets.
Tasmania Police confirmed the items were recovered following a public appeal, thanking the community for its support.

Hope For The Hobart Clinic
With just days before The Hobart Clinic’s planned closure, talks are under way to secure a transitional deal that could keep the state’s last private mental health facility in the south open.
Health Minister Bridget Archer confirmed negotiations after the clinic’s board signalled it may continue operating with short-term support.
Clinicians have proposed $2 million in funding for a six-month reprieve, as stakeholders work to find a long-term solution for the 27-bed Rokeby facility.
South Arm Highway Upgrade
The South Arm Highway will double in width between Rokeby and Lauderdale under a $55 million expansion.
Designs now open for public feedback include a new bypass near Rokeby, traffic lights at key intersections, dedicated bike paths, upgraded bus stops, and new parkland.
Construction is due to start in 2027, following an Acton Road intersection upgrade in 2026. Funded by $44M federal and $11M state contributions, the project aims to cut congestion and improve safety.
