Fire On Hobart Bound Flight
A Virgin Australia flight from Sydney to Hobart landed safely on Monday after a lithium battery ignited in an overhead locker during descent.
Passengers reported smoke and saw flames when crew opened the compartment. The fire was extinguished with water after initial use of fire extinguishers failed.
No injuries were reported, and emergency crews met the plane on arrival. The aircraft is being inspected, with the return flight delayed as a precaution.
Restaurant Of The Week
Established in 1996, Maldini is a family-owned Italian restaurant nestled in the heart of Salamanca Place.
Run by the Di Tommaso family—who hail from Italy’s Abruzzo region—Maldini blends warm hospitality with intelligent, well-crafted cuisine.
Using the freshest Tasmanian ingredients, the team delivers unforgettable dining experiences, whether it’s a morning coffee, relaxed lunch, or elegant dinner.
Maldini is a celebration of food, wine, art, and culture—straight from the heart.
Rescue At Mount Field
A Tasmanian family of six, including three children, was safely rescued after becoming stranded overnight in heavy snow at Mount Field National Park.
Caught off guard during a day walk, they sought shelter in Newdegate Hut after emergency services were alerted.
Treacherous conditions prevented an immediate rescue, but police and paramedics reached them on foot and provided overnight aid.
A helicopter retrieved the family safely on Sunday morning once the weather cleared.
Lily & Dot: Spreading Kindness Through The Community
Tucked into Hobart’s Midtown, Lily & Dot is more than a handmade gift store, it’s a hub of compassion.
Owned by Katinka Dineen, the shop has rallied locals for projects like handmade cloths for SHE Gynae Cancer Care and long-time support for Tassie Mums.
Through gold-coin gift wrapping, blanket-making, and 1000 Hearts, Lily & Dot brings people together, proving that kindness, like creativity, is always in style.
Rewind/Unwind With Friday Night Movies
