Big Crowd At Dark Mofo Finale

Nearly 20,000 people marched from Parliament Lawns to Macquarie Point on Sunday night for Dark Mofo’s powerful Ogoh-Ogoh burning ceremony.

The giant effigy, shaped like the endangered Maugean skate, was filled with written fears and set alight in a symbolic act of release.

Inspired by Balinese tradition, the event capped off a huge weekend of festivities and drew massive crowds as part of the city’s beloved winter celebration.

Restaurant Of The Week

Old Wharf Restaurant, located on Hobart’s waterfront at MACq 01 Hotel, offers a refined dining experience inspired by Tasmania’s maritime heritage.

With a focus on fresh local produce, the menu features standout seafood and modern Australian fare.

The stylish setting and river views add to its appeal, making it a top spot for locals seeking a taste of Tasmanian history alongside fine food and stunning surrounds.

Beloved Tasmanian newsreader Louise Houbaer signed off from 7 Tasmania News after eight and a half years, as her Hobart-based role was eliminated due to a restructure.

The station plans to centralize news presentation in Launceston, but Houbaer declined relocation to prioritize her young family.

In her emotional farewell, she expressed gratitude to colleagues and viewers.

She now seeks new opportunities in media or communications

Smoke Alarm Reminder

A kitchen fire in a South Hobart apartment on Wednesday night was swiftly contained, thanks to functioning smoke alarms that alerted residents to evacuate.

The Tasmania Fire Service responded to the Davey Street unit around 9:20 pm, finding the kitchen ablaze.

One individual was hospitalized for smoke inhalation after attempting to extinguish the fire.

Fire crews managed to confine the damage to the kitchen.

Station Officer David McCambridge emphasized the importance of installing smoke alarms in every bedroom, living area, and garage.
