Bank Note Alert

Tasmania Police have renewed warnings about fake $100 notes circulating in southern Tasmania, following similar incidents in Burnie.

The counterfeit bills are marked with phrases like “This is not legal tender” and are often used as film props.

Unlike real currency, they lack transparent security windows. Businesses are urged to check cash carefully and report any suspicious notes.

The public is reminded to stay vigilant as police continue investigating the source.

Restaurant Of The Week

Located in the heart of historic Salamanca Place, the Ball and Chain Restaurant is housed in a convict-built 1830s building once known as Haig’s Store.

Originally used by shipping agents, the site has deep roots in Hobart’s maritime history.

Since 1970, it has become a beloved dining spot, famous for its charcoal-grilled steaks and Tasmanian seafood.

With heritage charm and consistently top-notch fare, it remains a favourite among locals and visitors alike.

Parking Fine Outrage

Two Clarence residents have been fined $1,010 each for parking on grass near the Howrah Community Centre, sparking public backlash and calls for fairer penalties.

Ian Verdouw and Andrew Cane say limited parking options left them no choice.

Despite appeals, Clarence City Council upheld the fines, citing safety and consistency under its 2018 Public Places By-law.

Critics argue the steep fines are out of touch, especially amid rising cost-of-living pressures.

Proposed Billboard Too Risky?

A proposal to install a large digital billboard near the Tasman Bridge is facing rejection due to safety concerns.

Clarence City Council planners have recommended refusing the 8.5-metre-high sign, citing its location in a crash-prone area of the Tasman Highway.

The Department of State Growth warned of driver distraction in an already complex traffic zone.

The sign also breaches height limits and impacts scenic view corridors.
